Background

The present education system is severely lacking in many regards: not everyone has equal access to quality education, and the education model seeks to create better labour, and not free thinkers and innovators. But these are all shortcomings which we are well aware of, and are ardently working towards eliminating. However, the present standard of education suffers a certain “infirmity” which most people wouldn’t even have heard of, or call part of general education, let alone striving to incorporate in the lives of students, and that is mental health education.

One’s mental wellbeing is a broad concept and generally refers to how happy, composed, and free of mental turmoil a person is. Being mentally well is necessary because our mind is the origin of everything, it is the centre of our world, and thus its wellness determines and dictates the efficiency of our thoughts and actions. We cannot build a healthy life without a healthy mind, and so, while the education system puts great emphasis on growing up to lead a successful life, by leaving out mental health education it leaves the most important element of life itself, us!

Thus, to rectify the same and put the ‘U’ back in education, I started a project for Youth Education and Advocacy for Health, or Project YEAH!
